This printer I have, an Epson all in one, cx7400, came along with my latest computer a couple of years ago essentially as a freebie. I'll never accept an Epson printer again.
I know that they did that specifically so I would have to buy their ink. But I'm unemployed, and I don't use that much ink, and I've been having to buy new ink about every two months, at about 65 dollars per set of refills, and the last time I had to buy ink, I determined that I needed to buy a new printer that I can refill myself.
I can't afford to spend that much on ink, that regularly. I need to print resumes, references, schedules, - my unemployment deferment for my school loans is an online file that I'm supposed to print out, fill-in, and then mail.
I understand the business model that King Gillette pioneered, in which you give away the equipment, and make money by selling the refills. I think some printer manufacturers are taking too much advantage. Miniscule ink cartridges, with computer chips so they can't be refilled are despicable. Don't buy Epson printers - or any printer you can't refill yourself. And don't accept any as a gift.
The next time I buy a computer and a free printer comes with it, I'll refuse the printer. I've spent more on ink for this printer, than I spent on the computer. It's not worth it.
