Listening to Lady Gaga's leaked new album and not sure what to think. A few of the songs are super catchy, but then there are songs like "Hair" that are simultaneously catchy and have the worst lyrics. I don't know what's going on. I might buy the album at some point, but it's no Fame Monster.
So, Doctor Who was UNBELIEVABLY AWESOME this week.
I knew it'd be good because Neil Gaiman was writing it and he's just very talented and a big Doctor Who fan. I didn't realize that it would be so emotional and perfect, and would revisit aspects of the show from the classic series and re-invent canon in a believable way. He's definitely changed canon, but I think it works.
Idris/The TARDIS was beautifully mad. There's really no one in the Doctor's life who's ever been able to identify with him fully (except Romana), so the TARDIS personified was probably something he'd never imagined he'd be lucky enough to experience. She's just as intelligent and as bonkers, and it really was heartbreaking to see him have to give up the privilege of being able to have a conversation with her.
I still love Amy and Rory with all of my heart. And Matt Smith is the most wonderful actor. He deserves many awards.
Also, there was last week's double feature of Parks and Recreation.
"The Fight" was written by Amy Poehler, so of course it was amazing. I love that Ann and Leslie have conversations that aren't just about guys (their friendship makes the show pass the Bechdel Test with flying colours), and even when it does involve men, there's something more that's fueling their conversation (or, in the case of this episode, their argument). Leslie really wants Ann to love government as much as she does, and wants to push her to be the best that she can be. Meanwhile, Ann is trying to date independently and Leslie doesn't really understand that doing that could be empowering to Ann. Her character has been in steady relationships since the beginning of the series, so it's only fair that Ann should be allowed to have some time to - as Donna said - "lose [men] and abuse them". She's doing it for herself.
And Leslie and Ben askdjfhsdkfsdf yeah uh so I need to mention that I am shipping them big time. I haven't "shipped" anyone since I was really into Holmes and Watson (also, John and Sherlock in the recent BBC series), so this is pretty exciting for me. Ben is perfect for Leslie because they're both nerds, and he loves how powerful, intelligent, and generally awesome she is. He's not going to be the kind of person who would hold her back. I think he'd be happy to be Mr. Knope, and not have her be Mrs. Wyatt.
I am having a super hard time articulating my thoughts about this show, but I love it so much and idk maybe one day I'll be able to express myself well.
Community has also been awesome. I also caught up on How I Met Your Mother and, while it had a lot of problems, season six has been much better than the past couple of seasons.
This has been an update about TV and music, basically. I don't have much else to talk about right now.
I'm going to end on this note:
