March: Books One to Three by
John Lewis Congressman John Lewis's memoir of his life in the civil rights movement is must-reading, by turns thoughtful, inspiring, and horrifying.
Unfortunately, it's also not the end of the story, and with the Trump regime poised to gut voting rights this book is also a manual for the battles that are about to be fought again. There are powerful lessons here about nonviolence, the importance of setting priorities and focused protest, and the need to enlist a broad army of supporters. It's a shame that this all has to happen again on Congressman Lewis's watch, but hopefully books like March will help build another movement around his ideas and experience.
