the monster had come true!

As much as I complain about it, I really do enjoy weeding the periodical collection. Not so crazy about finding the previous librarian's "archive worthy" personal mail up there, but every once in a while, I find a real gem.

Today's discovery? A newsletter from the long-defunct independent bookstore, featuring a Reviews By Kids section. My favorite? Read on:

"Frankenstein is a chapter book. It's about this man who wants to make some new thing. So he goes to a grave and takes human parts. Then he goes to his laboratory and starts working on his new thing. Then it gets close to midnight when people say that strange things happen, and something did happen, the monster had come true! And that's when the fun begins. Because the monster chased the man! Then the monster goes out and finds a blind man and his family. So when the blind man's family is gone, the monster came out of his hiding place and he talks to the man. And when the man's family came back they screamed. So the monster ran away again."

I couldn't have done it better myself, Ryan, Age 10.
