---------------------------------------------------

Kim Jonghyun had never seen snow before. The only time he ever caught a glimpse, was in his imagination when his mother would read him novels. Or during cheesy Christmas movies, and even that half of the time was fake. So when his mother said that the two of them would be moving to the sleepy, suburban town of Valencia (with the pinky promise of legit, white, Christmases), he was beyond excited.

Jonghyun was way too smart and mature for his five years of existence (his mother was quick to realize this, after an incident in which she found him shoving pennies into the opening of their VCR- "I'm trying to save you money, mama." he had quietly explained. She almost started crying.), and normally spent his time with books and music. But the first day of kindergarten, was something he had been looking forward to immensely.

"Alright now, Jongy. Mama's going to come pick you up afterwards, okay? Now be a good boy, and try your best to get to know some kids alright, Sweety?"
"Okay, mama." he replied dutifully as she kissed his cheek and ruffled his hair. She had tears in her eyes, but he knew it was just a big thing for her to see her boy going to have his first, official day of education. The elementry school was built so that grades K- 4 could interact with one another, and were allowed recess together as well.

The teacher, a woman with peppered hair in a long braid and smile like sunshine, took Jonghyun's backpack and told him that today was a "get to know you day". Which ultimately meant that she was going to just let the children roam about the room and play on the playground, so they could get a feel of each other.

But Jonghyun didn't like the way the other children stared at him. some questioningly, others in distaste. So he opted for a nice book instead. Taking a seat at the back of the room near the building blocks and back windows.
Sometime later, a voice jolted him out of his fantasy land.

"Yah. Who are you?"

Jonghyun looked up, a tad startled at the two boys in front of him. One had round cheeks that reminded him of tofu (squishable, he later decided with a small smile) and was hiding slightly behind the taller boy who had spoken. Dark hair and eyes, hands in fists on his hips.
Jonghyun stood, leveling the other's intense gaze with his own. "I'm Jonghyun."
The boy eyed him critically, looking for something. "You just moved here, huh?" Jonghyun nodded stiffly. The boy thrust out his hand. "I'm Kibum. This," he jerked his head slightly to the boy behind him, "is Jinki." Jonghyun eyed the hand warily, and saw Jinki smile sheepishly, but encouragingly at him. He clasped it with his own.

This seemed to please Kibum, as he broke out into a dazzling smile. "You're now our friend." he declared, retrieving his hand. He turned on his heel, and started to walk out towards the door (being held open by the teacher, who was ushering the kids to the playground).
Jinki followed.

Jonghyun wasn't entirely sure what just took place. He clutched his book within his hands, looked down at it, and comtemplated what to do next. "You comin'?" the boy looked up to see Kibum, with a slightly impatient look about his features. "...Yeah." he placed his book on the window sill- making sure Kibum can't see his slightly goofy smile- and made his way to the door.

Jonghyun figured stranger things have happened.
