This week-end in London was so awesome. And not only thanks to James McAvoy and the Ruling Class -- I'll make another post for this unbelievable experience -- but also simply because London is a city I love. And with only 2,5 h from the center of Paris to the center of London, it really feels next door. Yet those two capital cities are so different !
We knew we would be able to see less than one tenth of what we wanted to see - we ended seeing less that one hundredth... but we enjoyed every second of it. And isn't it what really matters ?
(warning : lots of pictures below the cut)
We saw a lot of gorgeous art.
We payed our respects to Burne Jones and Rossetti in the Tate Brittain - the gallery with all the "preraphaelites blockbusters" overhelms me every time. I'd have slept there if they'd been okay :)
We also spent a indecent ammount of time in the Tate Modern - the gallery "dream and poetry" is full of really fascinating works of art, and the "conflict, time, photography" exhibition was very moving, and very clever. Loved it.
And I totally discovered Shoreditch and Brick Lane, and those streets full of gorgeous street art. And succulent street food. Yes, food matters too.
Lots of pubs and beers were involved. It was so nice to chat for 3 days non-stop with one of my favourite person in the world, without having to worry about family nor work, for once !
And did I mention tasty food ? :)
Beware of the spiced chinese soup of hell, btw. I'm pretty sure I breathed fire at one point.
We walked a lot, too, in the parks and along the Tames. I remember how ugly it was the first time I went there, with all the docks and no place to really enjoy the view - now it's just fabulous. Especially at low tide, when the shores can be seen.
And british people are so nice and so polite...
In short, it wish I could have stayed longer (and seen the play several times ;) ). But I'm sure I'll do it again. To see other plays.
It's tough to come back to reality !
