My BAFTA report

Apr 27, 2008 20:18

Welcome to the second part of our London trip: my little BAFTA report (with pics). Please sit back, relax and enjoy!

Since we wanted to find a good spot to see the red carpet arrivals and take a few pics, we decided to get to the Palladium quite early (10.00 a.m., but only after a good deal of caffeine). Armed with comfort food, soft drinks and an awful lot of patience, we positioned ourselves mid-way along the street, while the crew and security members were still rolling out the red carpet and cordoning off the area. About two dozens people were already there, waiting patiently and showing each other glossy pics and huge autograph books. Unlike us, they were well organised for the actors' arrivals, so we took note for the future.

Many other people arrived in the next few hours, and three of them took place right behind us. And since the world is so small, I looked back and found out that those people were none but elfbert, Fran and one of their friends from TRA (The Railway Arms). What a nice coincidence! Rabid Life on Mars fans like us who had met only once in real life and hadn't told each other they were going to the event, meeting up by chance in the middle of the crowd. Awesome. :)

Elf and Fran.

Fran, Lottie, Lo and yours truly.

The hours went by quite slowly and our feet ached, but we passed the time chatting, laughing and defending our spot in the first row. The first actors started to arrive at about 5.00 p.m. and then the fun began. We spotted dozens of celebs we knew, including Simon Pegg, Milo Ventimiglia & Adrian Pasdar (a.k.a. the Petrelli brothers from 'Heroes'), Joanna Lumley, Tom Hardy, Keeley Hawes, Bruce Forsyth, Richard Hammond, David Morrissey, Patrick Duffy, Nicholas Hoult, John Hurt, Dame Judi Dench and many others. The only one we didn't see (apart for the back of his head) was James Nesbitt, who only stopped in front of the Bafta jornalists for a second and then ran away faster than light. Lo and Lottie were quite pissed off, as they're great fans of his and really wanted to meet him. :(

At least we were lucky enough to meet Dean Andrews and Phil Glenister, as they both stopped in front of us for autographs and pics. Deano looked great in a tux (and has beautiful eyes), while Phil was a lot leaner than I thought and very soft-spoken. Here's a picspam of them both:

John Simm, all beardy and handsome in his black suit, arrived when the crowd on the red carpet was massive, so he didn't get near the public or stop for autographs, but when we girls called him, he graced us with a huge smile and waved at us (this was mainly thanks to Lo, who made a puppy face and batted her eyelashes at him at the right moment). Unfortunately, my pic was blurry, but Lottie took a beautiful one, which she allowed me to share:

It was a great day and we had lots of fun! :)

Oh, and on the following day I even found myself on the first page of 'The Sun Online' (their photographers were right in front of us), just behind Graham Norton. LOL!
