Book rec: The Time Traveler's Wife - by Audrey Niffenegger

This is my first book rec for this year: The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. It's not a sci-fi book as many people may be lead to think, but rather an unconventional love story, an emotional rollercoaster that will keep you riveted to the pages until the very end.

It is an amazing book, although I've only read it once because it made me cry so very much when the end became inevitable, and I don't tend to re-read books which make me that emotional. But it just goes to show the strength of the writing!

I doubt I will see the film, with a book like this I don't think it could match up to what I'd want it to be. :-)

I managed not to cry until the last few pages (when Henry and Alba are at the beach), but there were many moments that deserved some tear sheding!

I'm not sure about the film. The last time I watched an adaptation of one of my favourite novels ('If Only It Were True' by Marc Levy, which became this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0425123/) it was a disaster, and I don't really want to repeat the experience.

I posted my own tribute to this wonderful book around a year ago when I built a Doctor/Rose fic around it. It really did fit like a glove, so much I remember writing the story as a very emotional experience. It's a wonderful story of loving someone unconditionally despite all his oddities, maybe even because of them, and sacrificing any possibility of a normal existence for that great love.

I bought this book aaaaages ago and have yet to get around reading it (as is the case with the multitudes of books I own, being the bookaholic that I am) but I do plan to eventually. I read the first couple of pages when we first received it our book shop and was immediately intrigued. I also like the humour in it--it made me laugh out loud at a couple of bits, a good sign surely.

Adaptations are always touch and go. At least they have two capable actors in the lead roles: Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams, although whether they're suited to the parts remains to be seen.

I'm a book addict myself, always buying dozens of tomes and leaving them to gather dust for months. For example, I bought 'The Time Traveler's Wife' last summer, but only got round to reading it in the past few weeks. Better late than never, I guess!

Yes, it was a great book; one of the best I've read recently.
