Why are hemorrhoids called "hemorrhoids" instead of "assteroids"?

I think the original spelling was haemorrhoids, and heam means blood, as in haemoglobin or hemoglobin.

hemorrhoids are the iron-bearing semi-spherical (or "rhoidal") nuggets that fly beyond the foort-cloud. they only can rightly be called assteroids if they contain, in liquid pus form, the hydrocarbons necessary to support life. let's not talk about assturdroids.
