Back in Vancouver, where aliens have obviously taken over. Its snowing (snowing!), the whole city is on a boil-water advisory and I can't find Timba no matter how many times I look under the bed. (Isn't that where monsters usually hide?) I suspect I may have accidently left him in Toronto, because I keep getting emails that say witty inte-mu-lectual things like, "I miss you more than Republicans miss the point." Weirdo. Oh wait, is my blog now being patrolled by the White House trolls cuz I said that? It wasn't me anywayz... it was Timba!
Yeh, it's awesome to be back. Have I mentioned that I love my job? Anywhere that I can show up and learn something about solar panels, eco-fuels, recycled pop bottle pants (really!), and bicycles - and get paid for it! - is my kinda place. :)
Today I met up with the coordinator of the
Resource and Environmental Management program at UBC to learn a bit more before applications are due in January. 'Twas a gorgeous bus ride out there - snow covered trees twinkling amidst the little bits of sun poking through the clouds. Wandering about the campus, trying to find my way around, I had this sense of nostalgia for the academic life. Stumbling into the RMES building, complete with (snowy) green roof, huge windows (natural light), low-flush toilets, unheated stairwells, and reminders everywhere to turn off lights, to eat veggies, to compost, to recycle, to tread lightly on the earth, I was overwhelmed with excitement. But y'know? My meeting there really made me think, and that bus ride home had me lost in thought. I'm not ready to go back to school yet... there's too much going on in the "real world" to re-immerse myself in academia quite yet. Plus, it's hella expensive! But good to have a goal for next year (or later!)...
In other news, we finally got our phone up and running. 13 hours of customer service back n' forthing, endless yelling and frustration, and 4 weeks later, we have the oh-so-simple home phone we ordered. All apologies to anyone I might have subjected to my endless ranting about Rogers, in particluar I'm thinking of
prytania's Dave - who was ever-so-polite and sweet when a seeming harmless conversation about his new workplace led into me in a fit of fury and rage. *blushes* You handled it like a champ Dave! Again, my profound apologies...
So yes, if you know me well enough to have my phone number, hopefully I've already emailed it to you... if I haven't, well, then call me on it and I'll remedy the situation ASAP.
Oh, and BTW, Toronto was a blast but this city smells way better. All of you, *hypnotic, brainwashy voice* mOOoOve out wesSsT! ;)
