morning bananas

Mornings have never been my friend. Waking up early is absolute torture for me... I feel like death - I'm nauseous, my eyes can't open and my brain feels like its swimming in a vat of pudding. If I not allowed to sleep to my fill, I just can't function for hours. It's terrible! I'm notorious for sleeping through classes, or... if I do make it on time, arriving, pulling up my hood and promptly falling asleep.

This semester though, I have a bunch of early classes and meetings that I have to be lucid for. For the first two weeks of January, I kept friggin' sleeping through them and showing up 2 hours late! My roomie Kimba was in the same boat. We've been trying some hard-core tactics to get each other up in the morning - spray bottles, blanket theft, loud obnoxious singing - even requesting wake-up services from her mom via telephone. Kim has tried every alarm clock known to man; I keep my alarm clock across the room so I have to get OUT of bed to turn it off... but none of it helped. Mornings are just trauma for both of us.

Seeing that we're both in the same boat, we made a deal: neither one of us was allowed to sleep in for a whole week. If she slept in, I would confiscate Washoo (her pet monkey) and if I slept in, she'd confiscate Kyuss from me. (*gasp!*) If we both made it a whole week without sleeping in, we'd be allowed to watch a guilt-free episode of ER on Thursday night. The threat of such severe confiscation loamed over me all week... no Kyuss? What had I agreed to?!? It's OK Ariella... just don't sleep in. Don't sleep in?!? What was I thinking? I'll never succeed at this! Oh boy oh boy oh boy...

And last night, we popped up a bowl of popcorn, curled up on the couch and giggled over Noah Wylie - celebrating our morning successes and declaring that it was very likely we'd both turned over a new leaf.
Well, at least one of us did. This morning, (on a day when I'm technically allowed to sleep in, but decided to get up early and get rollin' on my day) Kimba slept in 45 minutes past when she was supposed to be in class...

And now, I am the proud owner of Mr. Washoo Oook :) BUAHAHAAHAHAHA! I RULE!
