I hope everyone had a pleasant Spring holiday/religious observation/break of their choice. I went with my cousin to my brother's for Easter dinner, which was really nice. I'm definitely glad April is coming to a close though as I've been on Altar Guild duty during one of the busiest times of the Christian calendar. On top of the regular changing out the paraments, we had a funeral last week, so it was: Saturday: change paraments from purple to crimson; Sunday after church: change paraments from crimson to whilte for funeral Tuesday; Tuesday after work: come to Church and change paraments from white back to crimson; Maundy Thursday: after services change paraments to black; Good Friday: after services, change paraments from black to white. And, of course, there was the washing and pressing of the communion linens to remove the wine stains. Oy.
This was my first time on the Altar Guild, and it certainly was training under fire. But now, I really know what I'm doing so that's good. I also know that I do not want to share duties again with the woman that was training with me. She was always late, always on her cell phone, worked slow, didn't bring in the clean linen she was supposed to have washed, and then on Friday she brought her sister with her to church (which is fine, great even), but the sister then 'helped' after services, most of which help consisted of constantly getting in my way which led to the disaster of me trying to get around her and bumping into the rack that holds the paraments and knocking everything to the floor. By the time we were finished, I felt like I had steam boiling out of my ears, I was so irritated. I had signed up to work with A again in November, but I told the woman in charge of the Altar Guild that I wanted to switch out. She was there Friday night, and she just nodded and said, "I kinda figured you would. She (the sister) was really getting on my nerves, too." So we worked it out for me to do the Altar again in July and then the last two weeks of December. Lots of changes in December, but, as I said, I don't mind that. Just as long as no one keeps getting in my way.
In other Churchy stuff, I got recruited to go shopping after work on Wednesday for the food pantry. At least the women I'll be working with on this don't make me crazy. LOL
Other than that, I've mostly been watching the grass grow. I mean you can almost literally see it growing from all the damn rain. Fortunately, my yard guy (yeah, I'm just that lazy I have a yard guy take care of my grass ;-p) came yesterday and cut it before small children wandered in and got lost.
I'm also still watching old seasons of The Amazing Race. I've just started S12. I occasionally don't watch the final episode because I can't stand the winners (I'm looking at you BJ & Tyler & Eric and Danielle.) Speaking of TAR, I was sad about last night's elimination. :-(
