Today would have been my mom's 89th birthday. It's still hard to believe at times that both my parents are gone now

My parents have been dead a very long time, yet there are days I still think "this is something I would tell Mum"

Just almost finished a kitchen reno. Hope you manage it and enjoy the results:))

I get pangs whenever I see a woman with her elderly mother shopping together as that's one of the things my mom and I often did together.

I'm terrified of the mess that these renos will make, but if the price is right, I'm definitely going to do them. I've hated my kitchen and bathroom since I moved in 18 years ago!

Then if at all possible you should go for the renovations. Especially if the contractor that you know is both reliable and reasonable.

Yeah, the only sticking point is going to be cost. I don't want to go into debt for them, so I may have to scale back what I want. But then again, my rooms really are tiny, so I don't think the materials will be too cost prohibitive, so it all comes down to labor.

I would do the kitchen before the bathroom.

On a more important, I understand your sorrow about the anniversary of your mother's death. Both of my parents died very young. My daughter never met my mother.
