The Five Fics Meme

Nov 23, 2008 11:30

No one's tagged me, but I'm a rebel, I do what I want. Anyway, I thought I'd play since I think I can come up with five fics I've written I'm fond of.

The Rules: Sometimes it's ok to pimp yourself out. Post a list of your top five fic-favorites you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.

5) Finding the Way Home. One of two SGA fics in this group. Most of my SGA fic is little more than an excuse to write John & Rodney having sex. This story though was a little more than that. A bit of an adventure fic, a bit of h/c, a bit of romance. After the events of Trinity, Rodney gets captured and tortured while Sheppard and the team search the galaxy for him.

4) The Sheriff and the Physicist. This fic I really do enjoy. It was written for the sga_flashfic community's Harlequin challenge. As the explanation says, this is purely a Harlequin-style romance, McShep style. I had a lot of fun writing this with John as a small-town sheriff and Rodney as a visitor to the town that John romances. It's probably my most popular SGA story, and one even I enjoy rereading on occasion.

The last three are all Spike oriented.

3) Past Glory. This story is probably the most popular story I've written. Written as a retelling of S6, one in which Buffy didn't die at the end of S5, at ~68,000 words, it's as close as I'll ever come to writing a novel. I reread it as I was posting it to my Buffyverse fic journal, and, you know, it really ain't half bad. *g*

2) Not Your Ordinary Walk in the Park. This story started out as pretty much a PWP, but thanks to my wonderful beta, avidrosette, it became so much more. I'm particularly fond of the second half of this story, which only exists because avidrosette didn't like the original ending. A little poke, a little prod, and there was an entire new plot far beyond what I'd originally imagined.

1) It may be rather surprising that my favorite story isn't one of my longest, or all that popular, or even Spuffy. It's a Spike/Angel friendship fic that I wrote after the end of Angel for summer_of_spike.

The Last Champion is the story of what happened to Spike after the battle in Not Fade Away. It really is a story I enjoy rereading occasionally, and it's one that I don't think I'd ever want to change in any way. I like the characterizations here, and I like the story. I'm really very proud of this little tale.

And now I'm going to give a bonus fic I'm fond of, because I'm a rebel and I do what I want. :-)

Another Spike fic, it's one I wrote from a challenge I read on Bloodshedverse. In The Unexpected Hero, Spike returns to Sunnydale right before the events of Helpless. Though with Spuffy overtones, this is really as much a Spike/Joyce friendship fic as it is a romance fic. It's also another fic that I really enjoyed writing.

And a bonus bonus fic.

Unchained Melody. This is a story I really didn't like all that much when I originally wrote it. Written for the Welcome Back to the Hellmouth Ficathon, it was based on a series of prompts assigned to me. It's Angel(us)/Darla, a pairing I'd never really written before in any meaningful way. I struggled a bit with it, and then posted what I had, less than satisfied with the result. A year later, I reread it, and to my surprise, I discovered I really did like it. Huh. *g*

I'm not going to tag anyone. If you want to play along, please do. :-)
