With the writers' strike and dearth of much of any interest being broadcast on television - I'm already terribly bored with American Idol, for instance - I've decided to follow along in the footsteps of so many on my flist and have broken out my Bverse DVDs. In this case, I'm going with Angel to start.
While I've watched the first disc or two several times over the years, I'm not sure if I've ever watched Season One all the way through, let alone any of the other seasons. I think that four and five are still in their shrink wrap. However, I am going to make a concerted effort to work my way through the series, and then, perhaps, move on to Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Last night I managed to watch the first disc containing the first four episodes: City of..., Lonely Hearts, In the Dark (mmmmmm, Spike), and I Fall to Pieces. Enough time has passed since the last time I watched them that even though I knew the plots inside and out, it was still really enjoyable to watch them again.
I was thinking of doing mini-reviews of the episodes here, but instead I think that when I have time, I'll take it to
fenchurche's new community,
buffy_rewind. She's started this as a discussion community for those of us re-watching Buffy and Angel. Y'all come.
In addition to watching my DVDs, I actually printed out one of my old Spuffy stories last night and took it to bed with me to read. Heh, okay maybe that's a little narcissistic - I mean, does anyone else ever go back and read their old stories? - but I figure if I didn't like the stories, I wouldn't have written them. Anyway, wow, in reading this do I see a lot of problems with how it was written. I still like the basic plot, but if I were to write it today, well, it'd be a bit different. Still, it's a fun story, I think, so I'm just going to overlook its warts. *g*
Maybe watching my old DVDs will get me inspired to write the Angel/Spike post-NFA story that keeps kicking around in my head. If I could just get more than the first couple of chapters plotted, I'd do it. Unfortunately, I just can't come up with the actual story. Blast!
