Football vs Soccer

Ok, so I got curious and decided to look up the origins of the word "Soccer" and found this:

So... the word football is associated with carrying the ball which, in my opinion, requires much less skill than the standardised version, SOCCER.

Well, as far as I can tell, everything was called football until they tried to standardise the rules. The codes who wanted to be able to carry the ball split from the main Association, and "Association Football" became soccer as we know it.

But it's funny that in the UK, where all this originally happened, soccer is still called football.
