So I lost my debit card today; my debit card being my main source of funds since i don't have a credit card. Luckily i was able to cancel the card in time so no one got a chance to use it, but i won't be able to get a new one until next monday, AFTER Christmas. Nice. Who says God doesn't have a sense of humor. Luckily the woman from the bank told me i could write a check to myself and get the money that way. So at this point the only thing that's bothering me is what bizarre thing whould i write into the 'memo' section. I wrote a check to a co-worker of mine a few weeks ago and wrote, "Erotic Massage With Full Release" in the memo. He says he didn't notice it until he was on line for the bank and the cashier kept on smirking at him.
Good times. Good times.
I'm been missing people a lot and it's weird. I don't know if this is some odd kind of emotinal kinetic effect from getting my apartment, or just an incredible coinsedence.
I miss Jennifer. We used to work together at Borders Books in White Plains back in 1997. At the time i was the psuedo-beatnick college kid and she was the reincarnation of Holly Go Lightly wrapped in a hard goth candy shell. We crashed into NYC every weekend for 3 years straight and never, NEVER, had a bad night together. In the year 2000 she called me one night with a crazy offer. "Let's move to San Fransisco." I said yes before she even finished the sentence. I was just out of college and was still working at the bookstore. But I couldn't pull it together in time; i was broke as hell and was having major leaving new york anxiety. To make a long story short, she went and I stayed and since them it's been phone calls, then AIM, then e-mails, and now random messages on friendster or myspace.
She gave me the best advice ever on New Years Eve 1999. I was stuck at home and she calls me at 11:00pm to go to a club down on Bleeker street. Her roomates boyfriend was DJing and could get up in the V.I.P. section. I was feeling kinda depressed and just wanted to ignore the millineum (i was quite cynical and brooding back then. . .what a dick.). Then she said 5 little words that changed it all, "Live like a rock star." So i get a ride over to her place arriving at 11:50pm, said my hellos, did some shots, and happy 2000.
So we get to the club at about 12:45am and there's a line to the middle of the street. Her friend knocks on the back door and the bouncer recongnizes and lets her in; Jen and I have to stay outside. 20 minutes later she pokes her head out the door and tells us to go to the front, and 10 minutes later a British guy in a suit steps out with her at his side, looks directly at us over the crowd and says, "You two, you're in!" Fuck man, we walked into that club like were the shit, and ALL eyes were on us. We got ushered to the DJ booth where we were treated to free champagne and free exctasy (see, i told you i was a dick, that's like a heart attack cocktail!) Anyway we danced for hours and tore that place a new asshole, and most of the morning was spent musing on the promise of 2000 and a whole 'nother 1000 years of stuff. No flying cars on the street at 7:00am, kinda pissed me off.
But it's all good, she's been back a couple of times and it's always like picking up where we left off in the conversation. I'm planning a big trip in 2005, a train journey across these great United States, final stop, San Fransisco and some quality time with an old friend.
