i told you [and by you i mean...umm...well, you ;)] that i would update more often than one time per month starting now, so here i am... so i still have no sign of a job for the summer, but like i said, i just put in that application to the rec. job in wayne on friday at about 4:30pm, so of course it wouldnt have happened yet... but the guy told me that there were "a couple of positions open" and im sure that my application was the next one that he got a chance to look at, so im at least somewhat hopeful about that... i think ill give that until the end of the week and then ill give them a call and see what i can find out, and if im disappointed by that news i will (after i eat a pint of ice cream, of course) go and find a job at either a fast food type place or maybe meijer or something --im pretty sure that if you take one of the midnight shifts at meijer they will pay you pretty well, or that is my hope anyway
anyway, so i met my cooperating teacher, or should i say teachers plural, today... it went pretty well i think although i am a little nervous - basically i will have three classes each day, but the classes are 87 minutes long and its the same kids each day (its not the kind of block scheduling where you go to different classes each day) and basically i just have the classes to myself (well, under the supervision of the 'real' teacher) to plan, teach, grade, discipline, etc from the day i get there until the day i leave... im not totally sure that thats how most student teaching goes or is "supposed" to go, but by the end of it, i will have had a very good experience and i will be hardcore prepared for teaching on my own... but also, im being "shared" between two different teachers whose classrooms are next door to each other and also connected on the inside by a door, so at least theyre close
im pretty excited about teaching (if you couldnt tell...) but its going to be a lot of work and probably pretty scary for the first little bit... i actually have to prepare my unit for the first two weeks of class sometime in the next month and then take it in to kennedy high school and show my teacher so she can look it over and whatnot... so i have a couple of "big teacher edition" textbooks (i think thats the REAL reason i wanted to be a teacher...ha ha ha) to look over and sort of "plan" what im going to do for the first few weeks and actually for the whole semester... ive never had to even sit through an 87 minute long class before, let alone try to plan out a lesson and keep the attention of a room full of 9th graders with my lesson, but hopefully that will not be as big of a problem as...umm...a really big one ;)
i think thats about all that i want to say for now, seeing as how that is pretty fresh in my mind... at least now ive gotten it off of my chest to my dad (who was "kinda" listening), to christine (who does a pretty good job of faking "really interested"... ha ha), and now to the millions....and MILLLLLIONSSS... of my dedicated livejournal readers --so i should be good for a while =) thanks for listenin'
