Dear Mercury Rev,

Light shows and screen images can be a great addition to any live concert, to add a visual to the auditory experience and also to make the stoned kids in the audience tweak out. However, it automatically loses it's artistic credibility and becomes self-righteous cheese when you begin to conduct the lights and images as if you were leading an orchestra. Oh, and when you add inspirational quotes ranging from Hemingway to E.T the Extraterrestrial over a film of dolphins swimming, that's when people take their cigarette breaks and grab a beer from the bar across the street and wait for the headliner. And don't wear tight white shirts with bell sleeves and flex your arms in a triumphant-muscle man manner when the last lyric in your song is "strong" and you hold the note and shake your arms for emphasis. Fag.

Anyhow, I saw Doves on Monday and it was fucking unbelievable. No doubt one of the best shows I've ever seen/will see. It rekindled my love of live music and made me mad excited to hassle people in line on Thursday for extra tickets to see The Faint.

PS- does anyone know any tricks to distress a new t-shirt? Please share.
