A quick rant
I'm back at home for a week or so, since it's spring break at Holy Cross (a desperately needed spring break at that). I'll be doing very little until Friday or so, when I head down to New Jersey to chill with Andrew for a couple of days. Then, I get to go to Wrestlemania XX Sunday night, and get back. Damn, I be pumped.
However, I'll hit you with a real entry later on. Tonight, I have a bone to pick with a certain subset of people who have found it necessary to hit me over the head with how fucking annoying they are. Those people are the hardcore straight-edge types, who might be the biggest group of smug, smarmy, condescending bastards walking the face of the earth that aren't officially affiliated with religion. Now, for a long time, I was a very straight-edge type. I didn't drink much at all, never smoke (I still hate smoking with a passion), never smoked pot, and didn't do drugs. Now that I'm in college, I drink a good deal, and have made an effective transistion. However, when I was a clean, sober type, I know that (with the exception of cigarettes), I was a fairly tolerant guy when it came to people's personal lives. If they wanted to drink themselves silly every weekend, or blaze up daily, I didn't tell them how to live their life. They were big boys, and were able to take care of themselves. If it looked like there was a major issue or something, I'd mention it, but that's about it. People have different lifestyles, and the key is to be respectful of the way that other people live, not to be a dick to people who are different than you.
Straight-edge people, however, do not recognize this simple act of civility amongst their fellow humans. Almost to a T, the straight-edge types (the ones who feel the need to plaster everything they fucking touch with the goddamn sXe thing to prove how goddamn cool they are) are nothing but jackasses. If you drink, or if you smoke, you're somehow below them. Let me tell you something: If you drink, you are NOT an immoral human being. Taking a shot of vodka does not put you on par with Rob Feinstein, Jeffrey Dahmer, and Benedict Arnold. Morality is NOT connected to alcohol, marijuana, or any other things. Morality is linked to how you go about improving the world and treating your fellow humans. And last time I checked, doing everything you can to demean people's lifestyle choices instead of being tolerant and accepting of what people do with their leisure time is NOT improving the world or treating others with respect. I suggest that all the sXe people take their heads out of their asses, realize that the fact that they don't drink does NOT make them cooler, morally superior, or whatever the hell else they believe, and that they wake up and smell the fucking coffee.
Once again, I'm not gonna say that this is all the straight-edgers. But if people feel the need to go out of their way to tell people that they stay away from that stuff with the damn sXe thing (the same thing goes for people who feel a need to prove to people that they DO those things with all the pot smoker paraphinelia, or the 8 posters about beer on their wall, then they deserve to have a new asshole ripped for them. Personal habits do NOT make the man, and until the fucking sXe'ers learn that, I refuse to respect them until they can prove that they're worthy of my respect on an individual level.
There. Done and done. I'll hit you with a new entry in a day or two (filled with 82.48% less vitriol) about some random shit (like almost all of my other entries). Peace.
