Y Strap Intervention Force

I don't think I have ever been so excited by waiting for scraps of cloth, which is to say not a lot, but more than you would think.

Waiting can sometimes be killer, and if you wait long enough under the right circumstances you can go slightly mad with it. That's why I am so glad Zaku-Sensei was finally able to help me out with my first real gear purchase. I've gone over why this new hobby is important to me, so I won't belabor it here. I will, however, belabor a point about waiting. I feel like the more I am forced to do by finances and school the less likely actually doing anything about it will be. But, now I have a small collection of bags. They are all of ambiguous age and communistic origin, but gear it is none the less.

I've posted elsewhere about the messages wearing a bunch of camo gear might send. I didn't think about what impressions people may get, and I do care about making people uncomfortable. There have been more than a few security threats in the world lately, some too local, where the perpetrators of violence were armed and clothed in military fashion. I do worry a bit given I now own camouflage and only a few months from owning firearms people will think I am going in the Justin "Shoot All Of The Mounties" Bourque direction. I wish I could say as it is not a legit worry. Emperor knows a lot of people think I could go that way, our histories are eerily similar (although I was spared the hyper-religious upbringing). I know even Zaku-Sensei is troubled by the possibility I could do something truly insane. I'm not going to say his fears are unfounded, but I don't think as of this juncture I am in any kind of state to cause violence to myself or others. I won't vouch for the future because I can't.

That said, I do really like my new gear and can't wait to try it out. I have in my possession enough stuff to at least go for a good long walk in the woods and maybe get sheltered for on day if I get stuck. I don't have the equipment to make that stay comfortable, but it would be survivable as of this writing. With a few more tarps and a descent knife I should be ready to take on the forest.

So, what is this new gear, you ask ? It's light packs, water carriers, a mess kit, a tarp, and some small items. I don't have enough to fill all my packs so I don't know what it is like to move with a full load out. I'm not even sure how to pack all the stuff I have efficiently in the gear I do have.

But it doesn't matter if I don't know these things, I have to learn them. To do that I have to find space and time to do. Hopefully I will soon and have something interesting to say about it.
