1. What is your opinion of poetry? Do you love it, hate it, can't live without it, or wish all poets would be stranded on a desert isle?

Ummm, this depends on the quality of poetry. But as long as good poetry is concerned, it always was and still is an essential part of my life.

2. What is your favorite poem? Copy and paste it here in your answer (and yes, if your favorite poem happens to be a dirty limerick, so be it- share away).

No, really, no kidding. Impossible to pick just ONE! :)

3. Do you have a favorite poet or a favorite collection of poetry? Along the same vein, is there a particular poet that you don't really care for? Why?

Well, there are many poets I like and admire. As a teenager, I worshipped Anna Akhmatova, Halina Poswiatowska and Emily Dickinson. Today, I like Anna Piwkowska, Janusz Pasierb, Stanislaw Baranczak, Ewa Lipska, Julia Hartwig, Aleksandra Oledzka-Frybesowa, W. H. Auden, Robert Frost. My all-time beloved poet is Joseph Brodsky. I should read the late poems of Czeslaw Milosz, because I know mostly the earlier ones.

4. Do you consider songs to be a form of poetry? Why or why not?

If they have good lyrics, then why not? Especially folk songs.

5. Do you write poetry? If so: 1) would you consider posting one of your poems with your answer so we may all read it; and 2) what inspires you to write your poetry?

I write it still, though very infrequently. I used to be a prolific writer when I was younger - thanks to a wonderful friend of mine who led a poetic workshop for teenagers. It was the best of times. Nowadays I'm too much in a hurry to write on a regular basis, but poetry continues to be an important part of my life.
