Partial redemption!

So as I was walking to Sven's Cafe today, I came up to Kinnickinnic Ave to find road blocks... and people. Apparently a parade on KK? Throws a small monkey wrench into my plans of taking the bus to either Wally World for a bike or up to the city to ride the Trolley around the city (it's free!). Oh, well, I guess I'll sit in Sven's and watch some bands go by.

I'd been sitting there awhile when I look up and see some marchers in pretty nice uniforms, and they looked familiar. The guard went by, and then the drum majors. From the first people, the uniforms seemed to fit WAY too well, and the drum majors cinched it. I ran outside.

It was PIONEER DRUM AND BUGLE CORPS!!! So they played their little Irish Jig and kept going, and I ran back in and put my stuff away and followed them. I was hoping they'd be followed by the Scouts (of Madison Wisconsin, which is a short distance away, and the Scouts will be in the relative area for a while, like Pioneer). Unfortunately, no Scouts, as that was the end of the parade, but I GOT TO SEE A CORPS!

I considered asking where they were rehearsing, but... I'm not terribly impressed with Pioneer. I dig that they have a big tradition thing, with the whole Irish Corps thing, but... well, they're not that good. And I have some unfair standards for corps (Sturgeons Law shouldn't apply, but for me it's closer to 95%... this makes teaching marching band very difficult for me). They are fantastic compared to 99% of the marching world. And they are better than 90% of DCI. Still.

AAAAAAAnyway, I was just happy to see them, especially to just happen upon them a few blocks from my work.

I have been in a weird sequence of moods lately. Last night I was... argumentative? lots of energy and nobody to argue with, so I stayed awake until 2am imagining arguments that will probably never happen. This morning, I was super lethargic and had trouble keeping up a conversation because at the end of a sentence, I would just stop talking and kind of forget I was on the phone, or rather just get lost in a blank fog. Now I am in a weird "amused by everything" mood. Like potheads but without the retarded laughter/giggling or general disorientation.

I have to decide now, bike or trolley or both.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince on Wednesday (I actually have that day off! When did movies start coming out on Wednesdays?!). Later this month, the Coast Guard Band is playing in some weird place up by Green Bay, and they are playing the Overture to Candide, so I feel I must go. I wish I didn't dislike the other Section so much at work, otherwise I could use this extremely lazy weekend to get qualified (they're good workers and all, they just... don't jive with me like my Section, so I don't feel very comfortable working with them).

Enough rambling, I need to go do something. I should also probably call Carla, but I think she had a 0100-0830 watch (1am - 8:30am), so I don't want to wake her if she's sleeping. WE SHALL SEE.

Call me if you feel inclined, anyone. I am free allllllllll day.
