make sure you convey all those deep meanings to the client when you present it. if they give you the impression that the particular colors or wording aren't that important to them, then invest less of your time on those things in the future, if you work with that client again.

when it comes to building your portfolio, you can put an example of the finish work alongside your intended vision to show people what the project was supposed to look like, or you could only keep your vision when showing off your work to future clients. Make sure all your work carries a description of why you choose the elements that you use.

Is it a personal attack on you when people do that? Maybe not in their eyes, but it is an attack on your talent. There will be times where the minutia is just minutia, and its not cost or time effective for certain inks to be used. If your cleverness is very subtle or vague you can expect it to be trampled on a lot.

Take pride in what you create. If i make a painting for someone and choose a frame for it, but they change the frame or decide to hang it sideways I don't care. I know what I created and probably have a picture of it in it's intended form. Once it's out of your hands it isn't yours. Lashing yourself to things will only hurt and hinder your creative identity. It's all a part of vanity.
