So get this. Two weeks ago, I happen to pull the name of a co-worker who is an aspiring artist. They took a 6-week course our art/animation dept gives occasionally that's opened to the rest of the company. In casual conversations with other friends and such, it is known that art supplies are on their wish list. So I get a starter set of various brushes & acrylics and a pad of bristol board. All good; the easiest purchase this season by far.
But no - after the exchange, they look less than thrilled. I ask what's up and am told, in polite words, that they feel I've put pressure on them. They don't know if they can live up to these expectations.
W T F ! ?
I can't believe this. IT WAS ON THEIR LIST! Supporting anyone who wants to do anything at all creative is now somehow a bad thing? Whenever there's the option to bolster creativity - that's where I go. Even for some friends kids - the gifts of choice are things like crayons, painting kits, Play Doh, and stuff.
Bah - flippin - humbug
