This was a strange weekend. I probably slept half of it and that is more sleep then I got the whole month before combined. Friday I messed up me sleeping schedule and I had to regulate it Sunday by sleeping like 12 hours. But considering I was only getting 3 hours here and 4 hours there the rest of the week I think I made up for it. I did go and see "Chronicles of Riddick" which was pretty good but not what I thought it was going to be. I can admit Vin is the man and I wouldn't mess with Riddick (lol) if I happen to be the bad guy. This makes it 6 weeks in a row I went to the movies and saw something good on the weekend. Hell of a month for movies I think the companies they keep track of the numbers and money at the box office said it was the best month in history. So I am guessing our economy is better then they say if 300 million Americans over the last month had enough extra money to go to the movies and buy some shit to eat while they watch the movies plus the gas it took to get there and the time that was spent while watching the movies...damn we have it bad don't we?
Anyway, I rated the movies in the last 6 weeks in order of how I liked them and this is what I came out with.
1 to 10 with 10 being the best, also in order of how well I liked them.
1) Troy (9 1/2)
2) Day After Tomorrow (8 3/4)
3) Harry Potter 3 (8 1/2)
4) Shrek (8)
5) Van Helsing (7 3/4)
6) Chronicles of Riddick (7 3/4)
I liked Troy the most because it had the all around features of movies I like...a story with a plot, hero and villains, love and honor, action and special effects, a good cast and a great stand out performance (Eric Bana)
Day after tomorrow was damn good too because the effects and the emotion involved. It shows what is really important in times like that and shows what humans are capable of when someone more then money is on the line.
Harry Potter was good but the beginning wasn't what I thought it would be and some parts just didn't grab me like the other movies. Don't get me wrong I am a big fan and I look forward to the next five or six years worth of Potters.
Shrek 2 was good and had some of those good parts like in the first one that ripped off movies and other fairy tales but there was too much drama involved with the nagging about her parents and it was too much like real life drama and I have enough of that.
Van Helsing was good and I probably should have rated it higher but some of the parts wasn't cast right and the whole general plot was the same as the others but I did like the characters in the movie and there is no way I could talk bad about this I still suggest everyone to see it.
Chronicles of Riddick feel below the others because in a way this movie has already been done before but this one had a better leading man who seems to be type cast by only parts like this. But it had good effects and leading role along with a wicked villain.
All of these movies were great and I paid to see them all and wasn't disappointed with any of them. I will probably rent and buy (most likely download and burn them to dvd) them on dvd when they come out. If you haven't seen them I'd catch them before they disappear.
