Things Babe and Gene do offscreen

They don't have sex. They sleep in the same bed, and they cuddle sometimes. There are kisses here and there, but that's about it. But they touch and are around, and are just getting used to this thing.
And sometimes when Gene is really tired, he sings while they cuddle.
Babe still watches him sleep sometimes, and likes playing with his fingers.
Gene likes how Babe's hair smells like soap. He likes to get his nose in it.
Babe likes all the little ways Gene tries to take care of him, and likes picking up his books to see what he's reading
He tried to make breakfast in bed for Gene but he burnt it and set off the fire alarm in their room.
Gene woke up swearing in French, and then he laughed and laughed and laughed.
Babe has gotten a learn french book and tape from the library, and borrowed a walkman, and he hides them from Gene. He wants to surprise him, but he's not doing all that good at it.
Gene sometimes wakes up feeling like a caged animal, and wants to leave but doesn't. Those nights usually find him pushing the physical boundaries of their relationship farther than he probably should.
Babe's favourite thing to touch is Gene's face, followed by his hands. He'd spend hours touching those hands if he could. He's not nearly so brave about his face, though he'll often fall asleep with one palm cupped to Gene's cheek.
Gene sprawls in his sleep (which is something his brothers never forgave him for) and has a tendency to sleep hard. At war, this meant going without sleep more often than he should, because he knew he'd sleep through cries for help. Here, though, it just means he usually sleeps later than he likes to. If he wakes up when Babe leaves for his morning run, he'll lay in the warm spot on the other side of the bed until a) he falls back asleep, or b) he has to go to work. It usually ends up being b, excepting weekends.
Babe doesn't mind the sprawl one bit, and never complains except to think that Gene is something of a blanket hog. Still, he likes getting back to the room before him some days, and sometimes falls asleep on Gene's bit of the bed.
Also, Babe secretly wants to do something nice for Gene. Maybe romantic, maybe not. But after Gene's cold, he's afraid to.
