Movies of 2012

There weren't a great deal of movies that appealed to me last year. I passed on most of the big ones, both in the theater and on DVD, but here are the ones I'm happy to have seen...

Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
Brave
Hugo (not sure if that counts; it was a 2011 release and I saw it on 1/1/12)
Monsieur Lazhar
Moonrise Kingdom
Ruby Sparks

When Avengers came out, I thought it sounded silly and uninteresting, despite having Iron Man in the cast. But the guy I was dating at the time wanted to go, so we went. And you know what? I effing love that movie. Adore it.

There was another surprise, too, later in the year: Skyfall. I've always rolled my eyes at Bond movies, and never understood their enormous popularity. Then I saw a preview for this one (in front of Ruby Sparks, believe it or not), and found myself saying 'I want to see that!' It's the only Bond film I like, the only one I've seen in the theater, and the only one I've managed to watch in its entirety. It's cool, it's fun, it's sexy, and it has a soul.

The Hobbit, on the other hand... What a letdown. Martin Freeman was the best part in a very long, rather dull and overstuffed plot.

that which makes me flail, check-in, self
