Celebrityism

I saw this thing on one of those obnoxious celeb-chasing magazine shows today and I've had enough of hearing about the whole Kobe Bryant sexual assault situation. Celebrities are over-rated and people need to get over them. Someone just lip-syncs good or can slam dunk a basketball and all of a sudden they achieve demi-god status, which is just rediculous.

Chris Rock had a monolouge about OJ in which he said "the OJ case wasn't about race, that shit was about fame! If OJ was a bus driver, he'd be 'Orenthal the bus-driver-killer'" and I think that's true.

Celebrities are human just like everyone else. THey wear clothes (except for Pamela Anderson) like us. THey go to the bathroom like us. They breathe the same air that we do... SO why is there all this idolization of celebs? We are all guilty of it. I am probably guilty as well. But celebrities should be treated under the law just like everyone else. THat rarely even happens though. Every time a celebrity goes to court, it turns into a circus and the OJ trial was the worst example of that.

When celebs get off and get some stupid shit like community service for something that a regular person would serve a longer sentence for, it sends the wrong message to the rest of the public. It says "you can get away with this since (RObert Downey Jr, Wynona RIder, Puff Daddy, etc) got away with it".

I don't know much about this Kobe Bryant case. If he sexually assualted this 19 yr old woman, then he should get his sentence for it as prescribed by the law. If he didn't, then he should sue her pants off for defamation of character, because from now on his image will be tainted and everyone will think, "he's the one that got off for sexually assualting that girl".
