My name is Lydia, but everyone that knows me either calls me Lyddie or Lid. I am from Knox County, Kentucky (aka Cannon, Ky). I was born and raised on these hills, and that is where I want to die. I love the smell of fresh Mountain air, and walking in the woods on a Spring day. I have to live right now in Lexington for college even though I don't like it. I miss my mountains. I was raised as a Old Southern Baptist (not with boring sermons/lectures as modern Baptists have to listen to now in the modern world, but to hiccup preachers and singing/shouting to praise God above). I don't think I would like living in a city (especially since living in Lexington for a year, but I will give it a try if I have to find a job. Jobs are now scarce where I am from. My hobbies is riding my bycicle and atv; spending time w/ friends and family. Doing paranormal research, and of course internet *obviously*. I am married to a wonderful husband for over a year now, and love him more and more each day. I hate being made fun of by my accent and how I talk. I try to be proper when need be, and not to be ashamed of who I am; a southerner. Other than that I will leave you what I believe the difference is between being called a hick and being called a hillbilly.
"A hillbilly is someone that was raised in the mountains (eg hills), worked from dawn to dusk, raised with old manors and to have common sense from what is right and wrong. Some hillbillies were not capable to have a fine "learnin education", but that doesn't mean we are stupid. It means we have more common knowledge in life and know how to be proper when need be. It also means we don't have the financial way of getting this education even though now there are programs you can sign up for.A hillbilly also knows what is needed/basic essentials to love live and learn life as it goes by.We are proud to live off the land and to take care of ourselves independently while taking care of our family."
vs.
"A hick can also be known as trash. Someone that has no common sense or would consider themselves wanting federal attention instead of knowing how to take care of themselves. I am not saying all people requested federal aid (welfare, food stamps, chip, etc) can be called hicks. There are certain times in all of our lives that we need help to survive. Especially when living in rural areas. I am talking about the people who "choose" not to work, have 6 kids not to love, but to get money from the government, and treat their children as though they think they are retarded just to get a check. A hick can also be someone from time to time on the Jerry Springer Show. It bothers me that they get both hillbillies and hicks on the same page when they are nothing alike. I could go on, but I think maybe you got the point. Thats just me though. I can be opinionated and heard on the highest mountain about some subjects"
