If I could vote -10 for it, I wouldn't hesitate to because of its impact. The critical thing I'd like to remind you is that: this movie cost ridiculously over 360M Chinese currency. That's heck of money, which is likely equivalent to an equal amount of dough in United States. Maybe some of Chinese people believe their booming economy can decently afford such cost, but don't make me try to guess your *particular* backgrounds. Every time, as I hear that certain *renowned* Chinese director is to make a big-budget movie; I'm literally hit by chill. I am quite positive that that movie will be a "flying wuxia Tang or post Tang Dynasty gravity free feudalism brutal emperor" stuff. If you ever get a chance to have a close look at how ppl struggle to make a living in China, especially in rural counties, you will agree with me that any thoughts of spending 360M hell of money on a nonsensical movie are as inhumane as any extremism. It is an urge compelling me to tell you this is because I experienced such life and I'd ever traveled to far more destitute inner region of China very recently.
Let's go back to the movie. One thing I learn from my English teacher is that Literature (in all forms; opera, painting, and drama, etc) is about releasing emotions through evoking spectators compassion. It is an universal standard should be respected. But did I ever bother by the feelings for the roles in the movie? Not a bit! On the contrary, I did find the roles were loathsomely boring. It might, but most unlikely, has something to do with its setting being not contemporary. Though, my bottom line here is: even if you cannot touch my feelings, will you at least entertain me. Frankly, I don't find incest, poisoning, and brutally tormenting a child to death are ever appeal to me entertaining. Not to mention how awful Jay casting as Prince Jie, very disturbing make-up of eunuchs, snow-white tits, and gaudy to dirt golden color.
The director's motives to produce such movie with such hideous theme are also unseemly. I mean the communists need to glorify its governance and the director is obsessed by Oscar and fortune. That is how they hump together to show off to the whole wide world how great is their communism working out, "See, We have plenty of 360M dollars to be wasted." Can you ever imagine viewers of the movie are not restricted at all in China? Any age can see it in theatre. The fun thing is those *superior* urban ppl do bring their minor kids with them. OK, it's a fashion to them. So hilarious! Da*n typical xxxx phenomenon! I hate to be cheated or to see some one trying to manipulate other gullible ppl. The movie is, to me, expect-ably awful. THE THING DRIVES ME MAD IS IT HAS A BUDGET OF 360MILLION Chinese CURRENCY! AND WORST OF ALL, IT IS TOTALLY WASTED because its box-office revenue will goes to Sony Classic, but not Chinese ppl. AND THIS IS UNFORGIVABLE!
