This message is going to be kept at the top of my journal as a quick introductory message in case anyone casually browses over to this journal and is wondering what makes the writer tick.
We could go on for months with my asking about your interests, because a good 50% of them I am clueless about. Which I suppose makes you a man of mystery, doesn't it?
Tell me what you like of Alan Moore's and Peter David's work, and why. I mean, we have to start somewhere, don't we?
It more likely makes me a man of obscure fandoms in web comics and even more obscure fandoms in popular music. The remainder of the mysterious ones are probably places I've lived in.
My favourites of Alan Moore's would probably be his Swamp Thing and Top 10. Back when I first started reading comics seriously (which is more recently than a lot of people think) one of the piles of a friend's comics that hooked me on the medium was Swamp Thing, including most of Moore's and Veitch's run. I just liked the storytelling... taking the stories absolutely seriously, despite the medium, and actually interacting with the rest of the DC universe on its own terms.
Top 10 got a lot of notice for the artwork, and all the fine detail and "Easter eggs", but I actually really enjoyed the story as well. Honestly, to my inexperienced eye it was plotted and paced more like a television show than a comic. And it worked. Most of the rest of his "America's Best Comics" line were OK, but with a few flaws (Promethea spent far too much time disappearing up

Formerly Known As The Justice League. (Darned LJ having a maximum number of words permissible in interests... or at least, they did when I tried to enter it). And another series (cf. New Warriors) which was crapped upon from a great height by management in order to Do Something Meaningful To The Universe That Nobody Will Remember In Five Years Time.

Aha. I've read bits and pieces of that (and I Can't Believe It's Not the Justice League) on scans_daily. I liked it, it almost makes me want to buy a DC comic again... at least in back issues.
Quite happy in fact; the new boy seems to be settling in quite nicely.
I could have done with another year or two of Ecclestone - as it was, if I'd blinked I'd probably have missed him - but it's probably not a bad idea on his part; partly "Always leave the audience wanting more" and partly that, if he'd still been working on Doctor Who, he couldn't have been Claude from Heroes
But Tennant is doing a good job in the role. He's got his own quirks that fit in well with the basic idea of the Doctor and at the same time make his Doctor unique. The most noticeable of these being his wide-eyed scientific detachment... a few times he's been all "Wow, isn't that beautiful" or "What wonderful workmanship" when he really should have been making himself scarce - particularly in Tooth and Claw and The Girl in the Fireplace.

Partially because you mention in your info that there's a good possibility if one doesn't live on the same island you do, haven't heard it. I could ask about anything NZ but don't want to seem 'stalker-ish' myself; I admit to a soft spot for Kiwi's and Aussies for a number of reasons.

You're welcome to ask anything you like about music (or New Zealand as a whole); all that would happen if you ask a question that sounded too stalker-ish to me is that you'd get a silly answer.
Although you should be warned that I have a lot of opinions, so if you don't want screenfuls of garbage as replies you might want to keep the questions sort of specific...
Here via the NaNo website, where I can be found as wanderingstar. On LJ, fiveredsnakes is my journal specifically for original fiction. It would be nice to have another NZer to talk with during the crazy month of November, if you're keen.
Great to meet you... I may not actually get around to doing nanowrimo this year (lack of plot is proving a major stumbling block at the moment, and lack of time to do it could also cause issues) though, and I might also disappear for days or even weeks on end (I have a very bad internet connection).
