Annoyed

My name is Jessica and I live in a Homeowners Association (HOA).

We’ve had issues with them in the past. For a period of time we had no grass because we pulled up some bushes and hadn’t yet purchased any sod to lay down, we got a notice in the mail for that. But the first big issue was when we didn’t pay our HOA fees the first year we moved in - little did we know these existed. I never recalled getting anything in the mail but instead of coming over to our house knocking on the door and saying, “Hey I don’t know if you know this but we have fees for living in the HOA and we haven’t received anything from you, its $xx.xx for the year”, or even calling us on the phone to let us know. No, they immediately go into the big guns, we recieve a letter from a laywer stating that we owe the fee + his fee which ended up costing us about $1,000.00! Really it could have been much more easily settled and much more friendly. It’s been a long long time since we’ve gotten in trouble for anything but today I recieved a letter in the mail with pictures of my garbage cans and mailbox. Now granted there is a post that used to house our old mailbox that’s a ruddy mess, however that being said, my garbage cans and ruddy post have been in their current location for well over a year. Why is it suddenly so that we must do this? Where was the HOA police when we started these things? I mean this is out of the blue. I just don’t understand. It’s such a mess when people think that just because they have money or live in an HOA they can pick on other people who don’t really care what their lawn looks like, just as long as it’s cleaned up. I’m more interested in the next President or whatever and could care less about their little HOA, my section of the street and the two above me ( about 30 houses - maybe?) are in this HOA the rest of the neighborhood got rid of it.

On another note I quite dislike overly priced, fake antiques like Anthropologie.co and Pottery Barn. Real antiques are far superior and worth what you pay.
