The Love Skeptic

I am currently reinstating any feelings of cynisism that I may have said in the past about love. Seeing as how I am only seventeen I don't suppose I would know much on this topic having only experianced an emotion coming remotly close to 'love' once. I suppose my sarcastic and somewhat derisive attitude twords this subject is an achievement that most married couples seem to have accomplished. The Census Bureau has projected a 50% marrige to 50% divorce rate in America from 2002 up to now. Imagine that, half of the kids in your school's parents are no longer together. Half of all marriges end up in divorce. It just doesn't leave much hope for our generation anymore. What will it be by the time we are adults? It just makes me see how very rare true love is, and even if you do have that, how hard it is to make it last. This is the point in which I have to say fuck it. Why worry your entire life trying to find something that you'll put thousands of dollars, tons of trust and give your heart to when there is a 50 50 chance of your relationship with that person failing? I say live life happy, and you can most certainly be happy while being single. To many people search their entire lives looking for 'The One' when in reality, maybe 'The One' isn't as much fun as you being the only one. I'm so happy for those who actually get the pleasure of knowing what true love is and being able to make it work. For that is truly a rare occurance. However, I say for those of you who may never find that type of 'aww striking' love, get over it. Live your life to the absolut maximum limit, with or without someone there to witness your happenings with you:

"We need a witness to our lives. There's a billion people on the planet...I mean, what does any one life really mean? But in a marriage, you're promising to care about everything. The good things, the bad things, the terrible things, the mundane things...all of it, all of the time, every day. You're saying 'Your life will not go unnoticed because I will notice it. Your life will not go un-witnessed because I will be your witness'."

~Beverly Clark from the movie "Shall We Dance?"

In closing, never give up on love. There is always that small chance that you MAY meet that perfect person and life WILL work out just as you've always wanted it to, but don't let your life slip away to a dream and the hope of your chance at love.
