The word for today is gratitude. Mere moments after I woke up this morning, I found myself thanking the Lord for so many things. I opened my eyes to see sunlight streaming through my window, I stretched in my big comfy bed, then I rolled over to see a dozen light pink roses (in full bloom) with his sweet note on my night table and my heart swelled with gratitude for all the blessings in my life. I love days like that.

Susan's surprise birthday party at Miramont was beautiful. Every little detail was just so her, right down to the tulip centerpieces, the food and the songs the harpist played. She deserved every bit. Because she loves perfumes, her husband flew in the fragrance expert from Bergdorf Goodman in New York for a little presentation. I could not stop smelling the Annick Goutal that I sprayed on my wrist. Several friends and family members gave very touching toasts throughout the evening and it was apparent that Susan has made an incredible impact on many people. I am honored to know her and call her a family friend. I hope that, someday, I can be half the woman she is.

"It is something to be able to paint a particular picture, or to carve a statue, and so to make a few objects beautiful, but it is more glorious to carve and paint the very atmosphere and medium through which we look. To affect the quality of the day, that is the highest of arts."  -Thoreau
