> Serve as Associate Director of the Center for South Asia

> planning and implementing program directions and
> priorities.

> INSTRUCTION/ACADEMIC PLANNING (50%)

> * Enrich the CSA curriculum by teaching two courses
> per academic
> year (one per semester or one in the summer and one
> in the
> academic year) on South Asia in an appropriate
> discipline. The
> courses will be taught through an appropriate
> department and
> cross-listed with other CSA affiliated departments.
> * Contribute to the development of additional academic
> programming
> such as an undergraduate major in South Asian
> Studies and/or a
> Master's in South Asian Studies.
> * Contribute to academic planning as a member of the
> multi-disciplinary faculty steering committee for
> the India
> Initiative. Shape ideas that include developing
> interdisciplinary
> or multi-disciplinary academic programs that draw on
> own academic
> expertise and that of faculty to offer seminar
> series within areas
> of the India Initiative.
> * Teach courses that contribute to the mission of the
> India
> Initiative as necessary.
> * Provide oversight of the CSA Undergraduate
> Certificate in South
> Asian Studies. Advice students on projects and
> coursework as needed.
> * Develop the overall academic content of the outreach
> program in
> consultation with faculty of the CSA and the
> outreach coordinator.
> * Contribute to academic instruction through
> development of online
> materials that will be used for supplementing
> courses taught
> throughout the University system as well as for the
> larger
> community in the state and beyond.
> * Deliver lectures and teaching at the K-12, business,
> media, and
> community levels.

> PROPOSAL WRITING AND GRANT ADMINISTRATION (20%)
>
> * Collaborate with the Director in researching and
> writing proposals
> for major funding from the U.S. Department of
> Education Title VI
> Program and for minor funding from campus programs
> such as the
> International Institute, the Anonymous Fund, and the
> University
> Lectures Committee.
> * Collaborate with faculty in writing internal and
> external
> proposals to further research within areas of the
> India Initiative.
> * Serve as liaison between granting officials, campus
> dean's
> offices, campus grants programs, CSA Director,
> Advisory Committee,
> and faculty. Resolve issues/problems. Write and/or
> provide reports
> as necessary.

> CENTER ADMINISTRATION (20%)
>
> * Supervise program staff including the outreach
> coordinator,
> financial specialist, project assistant and student
> hourly employees.
> * Oversee all outreach activities such as the Annual
> Conference on
> South Asia, lectures series, workshops, and
> symposia. Oversee
> content of program web-sites.
> * Oversee multiple program budgets. Supervise
> completion of all
> necessary financial reports.
> * Supervise annual academic year and summer Foreign
> Language and
> Area Studies Fellowships and graduate student
> pre-dissertation
> fellowship competitions.
> * Provide leadership and serve as chief administrator
> of the India
> Initiative, a program to support faculty working in
> disciplines
> that approach India as a rising world economic
> power. Contribute
> program-building and networking ideas and assist in
> implementing.
> Write reports as necessary.

> DEVELOPMENT (5%)
>
> * Serve as development administrator for CSA. Maintain
> data and
> oversee production of all materials used for
> development activities.
> * Develop and maintain close working relationships
> with potential
> donors.
> * Contribute ideas and write proposals to the
> International
> Institute, the Wisconsin Alumni Association, the
> Office of Quality
> Improvement, etc., to support development
> activities.

> COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS AND CENTER REPRESENTATION (5%)

> * Represent the Director and program in meetings and
> committees on
> the UW-Madison campus. Serve on committees of the
> International
> Institute as appointed.
> * Represent the Center for South Asia to national
> organizations such
> as the American Institute of Indian Studies, the
> Association for
> Asian Studies, the U.S. Department of Education,
> etc.
