My first week on the feminist front lines...

My internship at NOW hasn't exactly turned out to be what I expected, but in a good way.  I've come to realize that my previous conception of the oldest and most reputable organization that fights for women's rights, founded by Betty Friedan, Gloria Stienham, and other big shots of the 2nd wave feminist movement, was very much overblown.  It's a small office of about 20 people tops, and it seems to be incredibly disorganized.  But nevertheless, the people who work there are incredibly kind, approachable and generally kick ass - they really get a lot done.

Aaaaaanyway, the start of my internship has been a little confusing and daunting, to be honest.  My real supervisor is out of town, so they tell me, so I've been working under another woman on a project on sexual assault in the military.  Sooooooooo much research it killed me, but I seemed to get through it ok.  Thursday I was able to escape the task and join the Political Action peeps at an immigrants rights rally in the mall... so cool.

So we'll see how next week goes.  Outside of my internship, life is great.  I love my roomies and most of the other people in the program rock.  DC is an amazing place to live... near.... :).
