I left Canada soon after the Conservatives won the election, and I had this dream last night that I came back home and the entire country had changed. it doesn't make any sense, but we were all back in horse and buggies and all the roads were back to dirt. Just like Little House on the Prairie.
You emailed me this link so naturally you want me to reply to it.
More and more western governments are being elected on more conservative grounds. Canada, US, Germany, Poland and OZ have all elected or re-elected Tories. Hell, despite the name 'labour' Tony Blair behaves like quite the Tory.
So, with more and more westerns leaning to the right what should we be learning? Well, good question. I'm glad you asked. Society moves in ebbs and flows of opinions. Liberalism at a point in time had something to offer people. That time has passed. The guard has become blaoted and inefficient. Budgets are now designed to keep the MPs in office and not move the nation forward to a better place for the children.
Now, obviouslty the west is moving right. Conservatives will come in and cleam up the economy, trim down government waste, draw a hardline with anyone that fucks with our way of being. And then in a predicatble manner, push some political boundry too far too fast and we'll back to Western liberalism.
Another point to add in this the rise of social conservatism. Many people see the lax rules 'it's all ok' liberalism to at fault for the decline in the family unit, rise in crime, decay of communities and rise of the 'i blame scociety' revolution. Liberalism has made it ok to say "I'm too stupid to be liabel", or "I just don't want to be liable", "Hey! there was no warning to not drink the bleech."
You get the idea. Government that is more responsible with the it's dollars, stands the line in enemies, and comdens rathers than promotes social apathy.
Learn to take care of yourself. Learn to take of you family. Learn to take care of you community. This is what government should be promotion. and it is the lack of this promotion is why the West of going Tory. It's here to stay for a while, so make some popcorn and enjoy it.
