(no subject)
so, i'm in australia!
first off, the plane ride. which was my first plane ride EVER, excluding the 1.5 hour plan i took to thunder bay 1.5 months ago.
from toronto to la was with american airlines and it was horrible. who makes planes that small? i was stuck next to this 30's something woman who had adult braces and wouldn't stop talking. she did fall asleep at one point, but only for an hour.
we had around a 2 hour layover in la before we headed to sydney. in that time jeffrey and i ate burger king
the flight from la to sydney was wonderful! we got on the plane at around 10:30pm (la time) so it was time for dinner, which included curry chicken with rice, salad, complimentary wine, orange cheese cake, and bun.
5 bottles of wine split between the 2 of us put me right to sleep.
i woke up at one point and started watching corpse bride on the movie channel. they also had wicked video games to play.
when we got into the city i immediately checked the toilets - they don't flush backwards. they rather sort of flush from the front of the bowl and make a mess everywhere.
we took a cab to the hostel that i had booked prior. which was stupid hard to find because the name on their website was different then the name outside their building. so, me matched the address and tried to get inside, but they didn't open until 11pm, and we were there at 9:30. another thing that wasn't on the site. so all of our stuff and around $3000 in our pockets was lying on the sidewalk in front of this closed hostel. which i found out later is one of the worst areas in sydney. i kept running back and forth from this gas station calling landlords that i had made appointments with to see apartments, while jeffrey manned the luggage. we met with one woman to look at this apartment that was right down the road from where we were standing. the place was okay... it had palm trees in the front and was close to my school, but once we got inside, it was so hot, the air conditioner barely worked, and it was pretty tiny.
we eventually got into the hostel, which had no one else in it. locked up our stuff and went to see another apartment on the other side of town.
which is the one that i'm in now. i'll post pictures later, but it's really nice.
about the size of a hotel room, but with a kitchen and a nice bathroom. with a huge shower that has a shower head that makes you feel like you're under a waterfall! there's a pool with these giant covers in the air high above it so that i don't burn. laundry too. although, i'm sleeping on a pull out bed again.
i pretty much spent all my money all ready. i had to pay 1200 security deposit (that i get back once i leave) for the apartment, and a bunch of starting fees for the power and telephone of the apartment.
things aren't that much more expensive than back in canada. i hear otherwise.
cockroaches here are HUGE.
tv game shows are weird
a lot of people actually say "croikey"
everyone thinks i'm from england?
