The exchange office is accepting applications for one more bursary of $1000. This is what I wrote:
Throughout my career at Ryerson, I feel as though I have written an uncountable amount of explanations for bursaries and scholarships as to why I deserve money over another candidate. I have received nothing yet, so this time I am going to proceed straight to the facts, and ignore the part about trying to make this seem professional. (please do not count this towards the 200 word limit).

I need this money for the following reasons:
I honestly believe that when it comes to scholarships and bursaries, I have been looked over time and time again when I actually deserve and NEED this money. I graduated from high school with an 89% average, and did not receive any entrance scholarships due to the fact that I was unfortunate to enter Ryerson during the double cohort year. Also, I have maintained an A- average throughout years 1 and 2, and have yet to receive any money for doing so. Now, I do understand that receiving excellent grades does not automatically guarantee any financial assistance, and that I should be striving towards these marks regardless. However, I do believe that some compensation should be granted.
I have been relying on student loans for three years in order to pay my tuition and living expenses. I recently had to get a bank loan in order to afford a new computer, seeing that it is absolutely necessary that I have an efficient one with all relevant software due to the demands of my program. Not only have I had to spend several hundred dollars on textbooks, but it is also required to purchase a camera, an external hard drive, several rolls of film, and other expensive art supplies in order to complete assignments in my classes.
My exchange destination is Australia. And although it is one of the most beautiful countries in the world, the plane ticket there is going to cost in the range of 2500-3000 dollars. A cost that is much more expensive than any of the other exchange students will have to pay. I also do not have the option of living in a residence when I arrive at my exchange school. Therefore, I will have to pay even more money affording a place to live outside of the school.
Due to this plane ticket, lack of residence space, and the large amount of debt that I am already in, this scholarship would really help me out.
Thanks!
