Hello, lovely Yuletide Author!
You are clearly an excellent human, because we have at least one tiny fandom in common. My goal of Yuletide is always just More Fic For Everybody, so please don't take any comments here too seriously if that's going to freak you out. If you have an awesome story you're dying to tell, please do! But here is some more about me and my requests, should you want to know.
About Me
I love many, many things! Some of my favourites are: unusual declarations of love, found families, people talking about how great their loved one is without realising the loved one can hear it, pretending to either be in or not be in a relationship, anything IN SPACE, epistolatory fiction, fighting crime, happy endings, hurt/comfort, snarky banter, awesome ladies saving the world, revolutions big and small, the details of daily life in magical or science fictional worlds.... I especially love anything super geeky. If you have something you are SUPER ENTHUSED by and want to include ridiculous amounts of detail about, I will probably enjoy that!
Things I would ask you to avoid, please: sexual violence, sex that isn't definitely 100% consensual, cancer, and I have a huge embarrassment squick so I'd rather no humiliation of characters where that is not supposed to be traumatic. I am good with kinky sexytimes being included, but I'd generally prefer that sex in a story has another reason to be there than PWP. I love politics in my fiction, but if you deal with structural oppression in your story (racism, sexism, homophobia etc) then I strongly prefer my fiction to be on the side of the oppressed, even if individual characters aren't.
Requests
Lynes and Mathey Series - Amy Griswold & Melissa Scott
Ned Mathey, Julian Lynes
I adore these characters and their world and I would love anything you might want to tell me about them! Do Ned and Julian ever get to live together? Does Miss Frost ever tell them that she knows exactly what's going on? (I love that this is basically canon. Miss Frost being unshockable makes me happy.) I'd love to meet Ned's sisters, or find out exactly what "raised by wolves" means when it comes to Julian. I'm also really intrigued by the power Ned showed at the end of 'Dionysus Club': what does that mean for Ned's future? Their future together as a couple? Or if you have ideas for another case they could solve, or a place they could go to find new ways of doing magic, go for it!
I still think that "gay Victorian magical detectives" is one of the greatest concepts to ever concept, and this series is just joy for me. I love how VERY MUCH BONE-ACHINGLY IN LOVE they are, but also that they're both queer beyond that: their queerness is in their culture and their general response to everything, not just each other. (The fact there are gay clubs in their London is just awesome to me.)
I also really love Miss Frost, and her relationship with both of them. Basically, I love everything about it and would love some more, whatever that means to you!
Jem and the Holograms (cartoon)
Mary 'Stormer' Phillips, Kimber Benton
I really enjoy all the pink sparkly ridiculousness of Jem, and how it's all about the awesome ladies. I would love to see Kimber and Stormer's relationship as it develops into more than friendship (much like the show, I'm afraid I just do not care about any of their boyfriends) or just see them being awesome in yet another truly outrageous adventure. The more ridiculous the better! I'd love to see their future, too: how DO these characters deal with the 90s, in their universe?
I just... this is the most sparkly pink 1980s thing in the universe, and what the hell would they do about grunge?! Basically, this is all ladies all the time awesomeness for me: it's so daft, but even in the middle of ridiculous popstar adventures with giant hair and glitter shoes, all the ladies on the show also lift boxes, or drive really well, or, like, secretly know how to kick box. Or all of the above. That kind of 'women can be everything' ethos just makes me very happy. These are women with bodies and skills and emotions! I love them! And Kimber and Stormer making a friendship (or relationship, if you also ship it) across the divides of band competition is just the icing on the superglam cake to me.
Basically, this canon has almost nothing which would be impossible, and if you go for this I hope you have fun! I mean, we've got a superamazing supersmart AI and it gets used to... make a girl band. Whaaaaat.
Murder Most Unladylike Series - Robin Stevens
Daisy Wells, Hazel Wong
Daisy and Hazel OTP! I ship it but good, and I would love to hear how their relationship progresses in the future, with extra points if they get together and also set up a grown-up detective agency. If you don't want to write shippy fic, though, I also LOVE casefile fic: there are so many other classic golden-age mysteries they've not had a version of yet, and I would love ALL OF THEM. Or war is coming soon, not too far in canon future, and the girls are going to have to respond to it somehow. What happens then? Or I'd love to learn about them as older ladies, still in each others' lives somehow.
I do ship this hard, and more as the series goes on and their friendship begins to explicitly deal with issues of jealousy and exclusivity. But as I said above, if you don't ship it, I am also just plain all about the lady detectives, at any stage of life. Does Daisy end up the super-rich version of Miss Marple when she's older? Does Hazel choose to stay in England, or go back to Hong Kong, or something else? I want them to fight crime and be in love forever, but it does seem like it's going to be a bit of a rocky road to get there.
I am a big, big fan of both murder mysteries and girls' school stories, and the books are full of references to both. If you aren't, please don't worry about it, but if you ARE, and feel like doing your own take on your favourite Agatha Christie or Enid Blyton or something, please do! I would love that!
Think of England - K. J. Charles
Patricia Merton, Fenella Carruth
These two as Lesbians Ex Machina is one of my favourite things in KJ Charles, which is saying quite a lot. I'd love to hear anything more about them: how they first met, what other random escapades they've had, what happens to them in the future. We know relatively little about them, and everything we do know says they're GREAT.
KJ Charles was one of my great finds this year, I love all her books, but mostly I feel like there isn't much to add that she isn't doing herself. Except with these two! I was so delighted when I first read it and was like, OMG THEY REALLY ARE SAVING THE DAY. They explicitly get to do so because they're underestimated, and I kind of love that they use that as a power, to help them get by (and help other women, even if that means braining a philandering husband with a table lamp). Also that they make fun of Archie. Because Archie is hilarious.
I'd love the four of them to meet up again (maybe Fen and Pat also get to be super-spies?), or just to know anything about their past or future lives. Or if you'd prefer to do a ladies-eye-view of canon, that could be fun!
Happy Yuletide, everybody!
