the winding staircase

I both LOVED nad went WHUT to this week's episode of The Good Wife.

The whut was mostly to the whole Russian hacking subplot, which really made no sense even if we did get Kalinda calling someone a schmuck. (And also apparently not much has changed for Kalinda in six years, which just came over as really sad, to me.) But I was not 100% sold on the Elspeth, actually, and that really surprised me.

See, I LOVE Elspeth, I think she'w wonderful, but she's like the secret superweapon of the show, and you can't deploy your superweapon too often without serious ramifications. And I think they may have finally juuuust tipped over the edge of the Elspeth in this one. Mostly because what we saw in her head was, well, not what I thought was in her head! Like, yes, Elspeth is weird, and I even totally buy that she may sometimes be the sort of weird that actually impedes her brilliance... but seeing things, like, literally? And we ONLY got weird, no sign of how she puts things together. Maybe the answer to that is because the writers don't know either, they just make it up so she's magically brilliant. But in that case, showing us the inside of her head was a bad, bad idea. I loved seeing her on the treadmill pulling it together, but I was definitely left with a whut.

The yays, though, were epic!

I loved Diane being like, hell no I will not give David Lee the building! (And screeching at a cockroach exactly like I would.) I love her!

And oh my god ALICIA in this. Alicia Alicia Alicia. Alicia, whose personal is political, and whose political is personal. She has power now and by god she used it to WIN that fuckin fight with Peter and it was DESERVED. Peter is not evil, but he can be such a bastard, and seeing him try it, and lose, and have the whole ending be a glorious comparison of episode 1 Alicia with Alicia now, literally stood in the same position but this time, her head held high and she is being INTRODUCED by Peter, as the main event, not stood silent by his side while he destroys her life. I cheered. Clearly so much has been building up to that moment that I'm almost worried that anywhere we go from here might be a let down.
