I haven't updated since approximately the last major extinction event, so I have to start this post off with: one hundred icons! I only have
76 so far, but oh, I've been having so much fun making new ones, like my lovely Jodrell Bank icon and Nicky Wire's grin and David Hewlett being hot and yay. It's like Christmas and my birthday all at once. I have all these plans, and am spending way too much time with Google image search - I feel I should explain to Google, in case I'm leading it on or something.
Hee, this song reminds me of driving around LA with
snoopypez. "Party like a rockstar KICK A LITTLE ASS!" Aww, even though it disturbs me a little that I am missing the heat a little, I love my happy summer mix music. And talking of,
jacinthsong told me (while being very adorable and hungover from celebrating her TRULY FREAKING AWESOME exam results for which everyone should go and congratulate her) that there is a version of the Rah Rah Rasputin song in Finnish. If anyone has a copy or a way of finding one, then please, please let me know. :D
And now it's the Belgian Girls Choir singing "I Touch Myself". Ahahahah.
Anyway, now I am moving on to the important bit of the day, which is the linking people to coolness bit and then squealing like an idiot over Stargate: Atlantis. See, it's been so long since I posted that I have a whole long list of things I wanted to tell people about and now I can't remember them all.
This is Good Omens as written by
Gizoogle. There are no words, except possibly "An Angel, an part time rare book pimp".
R. Tam, Session 416, Second Excerpt. This is kind of to do with the Serenity film, but it's not spoilery, it's... well, actually, my response as documented by
tellitslant was "holy freaking shit", because this is one of the creepiest things I've ever seen. Ever. Brrrr. Genius, though.
mike_smith has not read the first five Harry Potter books, but he's reading the sixth and reviewing the chapters on his journal. It's actually funny and really interesting.
This is the very spoilery Edward Gorey version of Half Blood Prince, and it is wonderful.
This, meanwhile, is George Bush/Sirius Black fic, and is therefore just destined to break your brain (also, AHAHA).
Actually, this is kind of a theme for the moment: Ways In Which Fandom Has Broken My Brain.
thefourthvine is especially good at this, because she finds the crazy, crazy fic that yet also works and is worth reading. Like
this, which is a perfectly cracked rendering of the Marauders as a punk band. No, seriously, it is hilarious and perfect and wonderful and anyone who's ever read the Potter books should read this now. Likewise, everyone who's seen Stargate: SG-1 needs to read
this, which actually is what would happen if SG-1 were a band, and then there's
this, which is Aziraphale and Crowley from Good Omens as My Little Ponies, and then I was reading
rageprufrock's Stargate: Atlantis AUs and they're all really good, even the current one with the stripping, and then I wonder what this says about my brain that I have actually canon-based reasons for finding all these stories so awesome. Then I think it's probably safer just to go back to the crack. :)
For instance, boykissing. Boykissing is, in my opinion, a good thing, and therefore I am pimping it to you.
Here is the yousendit.com link to a clip from a movie called Century Hotel. This features David Hewlett (who plays Rodney in Stargate: Atlantis, and of whom more later) boykissing. It is a very good thing. It is also worth noting that the look he gives the other guy here, just before they start kissing, is exactly the look Rodney gives John fairly regularly. :D (
Here, by the way, is the aftermath of that clip, which has Rodney's bum in it. It's not as good as the first clip, though.)
And ohohoh, I just watched the first three episodes of SGA season 2, and while I am miffed at what happened to Ford (Ford was lovely and I don't want him to be a half-Wraih person and I liked having a nice, friendly black guy who didn't die or turn evil or anything DAMMIT) I am just so full of the love. It's a crazy, occasionally cheesy show, but oh man it's wonderful.
Like, freaking Skinner from the X Files comes in and tries to take John's job! And John is just awesome. I still find him difficult to understand, but he's really fascinating me. There's been some really good discussion recently
here and
here on that topic, and I might have to go on about what I think about him sometime soon, but whatever: he's still the guy who can do the whole "You did great back there, Rodney. Wanna take the stick?" "Really?" "No." thing approximately half a minute after they both nearly died. It's just so wonderful - he knows how to reassure Rodney, how to distract him, how to get back to normal teasing, and the grin on his face is just so cute. Plus, he is NINJA! An actual NINJA! Or at least a sniper. Mmmmmmmm, John being all ninja-y. And he can be described as
skinny and snarkalicious with pointy ears like a wee sarcastic elf. Ahahaha.
And if the thought of what's actually going in his head behind the grins and the smirking kind of makes me want to cry, at least he has Rodney. He and Rodney are adorable in every possible way - they both find the annoying things about the other one cute, complete with John trying not to laugh at Rodney's posture when they're going through the transporter thing, ahahaha - and they get each other and have incredibly married conversations where it's obvious they've had the same argument about twice a week for years about how Canada's better for not having the death penalty and they respect each other and Rodney cries over John's nearly dying, just puts his head in his hands and weeps, and GAH I love this show.
I also love Rodney. I very nearly cried when he was being escorted with the ZPM and was all "you do realise you've got to PROTECT ME, right? And the ZPM, obviously, but also me!" in his usual Rodney way and then they died and Rodney faced down the Wraith with this terrified look on his face even as he tried to bring it on big style and then the clip fell out of his gun and wah. I totally loved Teyla for saying he was brave, though, because dammit he was. My Rodney is snarky and bitchy and easily stressed and gapes like a fish when it turns out the hot Major can work out probabilities as well as he can fly a plane and waves his hands around when he talks just like I do when overly excited and makes little kids cry but still tries to save them and when it really counts, he tries his best and worries that it won't be good enough. He is my lovely snarky bundle of joyousness. I love Rodney.
And David Hewlett too, for being such an amazing actor. He's the fucking king of the reaction shot. In and of himself, he makes an otherwise fairly cheesy show shine. It's amazing. It also helps that he is
a huge dork who is
lovely. Just
lovely. Awww.
*happy sigh* I also love the
sga_newsletter, because it's like the fandom brought to you, every day. This is a Good Thing. And wow, that's a whole lot of stuff all in one post. Clearly, not updating is bad for the health that way. Oy.
