... in which poker is the sport of people who play poker

Sometimes I am vaguely freaked out by the depths of my own geekiness. I've sat up all night reading thefourthvine's recs (and I actually mean all of them) when I have an 8.30 class tomorrow for which I've not done the work. I also just made a comment to myf which included "Oooh, you can tie that to how fantasy literature as a whole is about subverting the dominant ( Read more... )

Thank you for this post. I've been feeling kind of burnt out on fandom for the past few days and this? Was just what I needed to read.

*hugs*

I'm glad I could help, then. :) All the politics and bitching - and such insane bitching, like other people's preferences are going to kill people or make them traitors or whatever, oy freaking vey - get too much very easily, and I was kind of glad to get back to realising why I love it so much myself.

Wonderful post:). Yay. And dude, there are tons of filks celebrating fandom. I bet there are a few that are made to the tune of songs that I actually know... ooh, jekesta wrote the best filk ever but she hasn't given it a permanent space on the web anywhere. And I cry.

You made Hasselhoff torture almost sound good, y'know...

But it's not even remotely finished! *woe* It also sucks, but if you would like to beta when it's done then maybe this shall be less. *hopeful*

Also: yeah, Gladstone used to go off reforming prostitutes and then come home and whip himself for fancying them. Um, three cheers for Victorian morals?

Hahaha Gladstone/Disraeli! What a genius idea. I love Disraeli. He was so cool.

You seem to be a multi-fandom person. Which fandoms would you say are most important to you?

Dude, both Disraeli's wife Mary Ann and Gladstone habitually called him Dizzy. It really doesn't take a lot to extroplate upon it... although it ain't going to be happy, especially with Gladstone's penchant for whipping himself.

And hee, I've known you for, what, a year and a half, and my ultimate polyfannishness is still doubted? :) As in many things, I don't like being made to choose - I love all my fandoms equally for being their unique and awesome selves. I also attempted a brief overview of what I love about all my fandoms here, but it was too big for one comment, so I'm going to make a post out of it.

He had a penchant for whipping himself? Why did I not know this? Serves me right for knowing nothing about history and then only reading stuff about Disraeli. Omg omg. I think I have a crush on Gladstone, that crazy, prostitute-reforming, self-flagellating, Dizzy-loving nutcase. <3<3

Have you seen the HBP covers yet??? Bit boring that the colour scheme is the same as COS, but it looks interesting.

I have! The flame thing is weird. I like the Pensieve on the American cover, though. And from Dumbledore's presence, I'm glad I guessed he won't die til the seventh book. :)
