Camp Synopsis: Day Two

Jan 29, 2007 02:23

Today I was reminded again of how much I still don't know. I guess I'm pretty used to it by now, but after everything it feels like I've learned a lot, then I show up in a place like this and I don't get everything all over again.

Well, it turns out the reason Kazumi kept asking me if I liked Guy was because she thought I was sly. Captain Reynolds explained to me that 'sly' is when guys like each other the way they usually like girls. The normal way is 'straight'. I didn't believe him at first. It sounded like some kind of joke! But when he asked me why I didn't believe him I couldn't really say. I guess just because I've never heard of it. I didn't need Guy to tell me that men like women (...I think) so it's hard to believe I wouldn't notice something like that. It just... doesn't happen, right?

But he told me there were two guys here who were even married. By that point I pretty much believed him, but I wanted to make sure for myself anyway, so I went and talked to Gwendal and Wolfwood. And they really are married, and they're definitely both men.

I still can't say I really get it, and I don't see why people would keep thinking that about me and Guy. I'm not 'sly', and Guy's not either. But now that I know what they're talking about it doesn't really matter, I guess. Gwendal seemed to think I'd have something against him for it though? I wonder if it's something people don't want you to know? That'd explain why I've never even heard of it before.

Anyway, I met a couple more new people today. Didn't get either of their names though. The first one had a stick with wire on it he says he uses to catch fish. I wanted to see how he does it but I'm pretty sure the lake here isn't safe for that that kind of thing. It glows. The other guy was just a jerk who made fun of me for not trying to get out yet. I guess he's right though, I can't sit here and worry about not being able to leave when I haven't even seriously tried. I'll go the barrier tomorrow. At least I can take a look.

Oh, and there was a dog in the room when I got back. He's sleeping on the floor right now. I've never really had a pet or anything before, unless you count Mieu, who's way too annoying. But this one's not bad! He can understand me, but can't talk back. I wonder if all the animals around here can understand people? Anyway, I don't know his name yet, but I'll ask Hugo when he gets back.
