Saw a few more bands tonight. Mostly at the NME showcase. We tried to get into the Levi's Fort to see Thurston Moore, Lou Reed, Yo La Tengo, and N.E.R.D, but -- despite our having RSVP'd -- they filled up early. Ah, well.
The Life and Times: Good, old-fashioned indie rock. I wouldn't say there was anything terribly noteworthy or remarkable about them, per se... but they certainly did rock, with a big, atmospheric sound, ringing guitars, and a really nice nostalgia for bands like Seam.
Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip: Holy fucking shit. ZOMG. Best act I've seen so far. I got to talk to Scroobius Pip a bit, too... nice guy. He gave me an absolute assload of stickers that say "just a band" for plastering on band posters around town.
YACHT: Really good. I liked them a lot. Kinda bass-heavy electronic pop with male/female duet vocals and audience participation.
Switches: These guys must get a lot of hype in their native London...because they clearly thought they were the shit. The music wasn't that bad at all, but their lyrics were insipid and awful...and their ridiculous, glammed-out fashion and way-too-into-ourselves stage presence really kept me from enjoying them at all.
Holy Fuck: Were a pretty good IDM act. They have a remarkable amount of stage presence and energy for the genre...but I kept thinking, "man, I want to see Mouse on Mars again." Plus, it was crowded as fuck. People....a badge entitles you to get in, not to push your way immediately to the front of the stage.
