Thanks to yesterday's kitty delivery by
snickerpuss and her sister, I'm now sharing my home with a pair of cats:
Smokey has a sweet disposition, extra toes on her paws, and an uncanny ability to disappear for hours at a time. Yesterday I think she was napping behind my refrigerator, and today I haven't seen her since she woke me up by knocking my electric keyboard off its stand. (Both cat and keyboard are fine.) I've searched behind the books on my bookshelves, behind my kitchen appliances, on top of my kitchen cabinets, in the laundry basket, in every closet and drawer that's open more than half an inch, and double-checked that my windows are closed and intact. She's a small cat, so I just have to trust that she's curled away in some warm place that a gangly, six-foot human can't fathom.
Muddy spent most of yesterday hiding under my bed. She became territorial when I laid prostrate beside the bed in an attempt to gain rapport, but started exploring on her own when I left her alone. She finally walked right up to me when she saw that I was lavishing attention on Smokey, though not without hissing at her first. Anyway, Muddy has huge, round eyes, like a giant squid's, that are a little unnerving when they're fixated on you.
I'm pretty sure that Smokey and Muddy were named for their coat colours, but I tell people that they were named after Smokey Robinson and Muddy Waters, because they're all cats, you dig…
