things are looking up!
1.) Greg got a job! He starts at best buy on Sunday. The employee discount (cost + 10%) will be very nice. I am going to get myself a tablet, a point-and-shoot camera and some camera lenses (if I can find any), a record player, some computer components, and a new tv or monitor. Now that he's employed things are smooth sailing. What a relief!
2.) Work is SO LAME. Here are some examples:
- when I was hired three weeks ago I was told I could wear my hair down. Yesterday I did and then assistant manager bitched at me! She was the one who told me I COULD, and it's not like my hair grew more than 1/4 inch in three weeks. SERIOUSLY
- girls I work with asking me if cats have bellybuttons and if swans fly. They are all over 21 and were educated in Canada. How can they not know this shit?
- most of the customers are regulars. They all know I'm new, because most of them come in at least once a day. A bunch of people refuse to tell me their order. They say 'I'll have the usual' and when I ask what that is, the customer will gesture to my coworkers and say "they know what it is". My coworker will then relay the order to me so I can type it into the till. how lame! Couldn't you just tell me your god damn order? Are you really so much of an asshole that you insist on ordering 'the usual' every day?
- speaking of assholes, Jeremy Piven came into my shop, and I served him. At first when I saw him, I thought 'Hey! It's Jeremy Piven! No, wait, this dude looks way too old and rough to be him, it's probably just another asshole lawyer.' I just treated him like any customer and even balked when he held up a quarter and asked me what it was worth (Americans!!!!!). And just like most of the people who come in, he got all bug-eyed and stared at my tattoos* for a few uncomfortable seconds. Then I noticed the woman with him calling him 'Jeremy' and my coworker asked him for his autograph. For the rest of the day, my coworkers talked to nearly every customer about their brush with fame. It was so embarassing. As though our customers care!!
*Today this nerdy thirty-something regular said: "you have tattoos!" I replied "yes, I do" and he bumbled away awkwardly. AUGHHHH CUSTOMER SERVICE
3.) I am so loving my house. My large kitchen is *awesome*. I have been making the best food. Apple dumplings, cupcakes, cookies, pad thai, soups galore, seitan fried "chicken", sweet polenta pie, moong dhal and eggplant fritters with raita, and now I am making myself hungry. I found my camera cord so I will post photos soon.
4. ) I installed Ubuntu on my laptop, so now it works again!! Fuck you, virii, trojans and assorted malware! Ubuntu is nice, though some things take a while to get used to. I like the default font, though. Is that strange?
5.) time for some vegan chocolate-chocolate cupcakes and an episode of little mosque on the prairie. I take pleasure in small things.
