kyocera and the flying tigers

to preface this post, i will mention that i have kind of a .. thing with electronics. if a machine is to be mine, we have to have a mutual relationship. i have to be deeply pleased by it, and looking at it has to make me feel slightly cooler. take my laptops, for example. windows 98, both of them, and the stronger one has 32 MB of memory, but DAMNNNN, THEY ARE ADDDORRRAAAAAABBBBLLLEEEE, and we respect each other.

keep that in mind, because i've got a story for you today.

this afternoon, i acquired an insurance issue cellular phone. (in lieu of my other beloved but rapidly degenerating telephone.)

i was not particularly happy with it, seeing as it's a "kyocera" (what in the name of hell is a kyocera!?) and the best marketing their website could use in describing its features was "rugged design! rubber grips!" but i couldn't choose. so, here i am poking this little machine and not even knowing what to say. you see, under "ring", under "color theme", under "wall-paper", probably even under "backlight", is a feature called "rave". with no real desire to have my telephone be a den of brightly colored dancers doing ecstacy to repetitive beats, i chose "UFO" for the wallpaper and "happy crickets" for the ring tone. (the ringer was later changed to "slot machine".) feeling some genuine physical repulsion, i plodded around until i reached "media library", and everything changed.

tetris.
a smile spread slowly across my once furrowed countenance, and seven words softly escaped my mouth.
"maybe, just maybe, we can be friends."
