Room 505, Friday Evening

Dec 21, 2007 17:41

Kabuto had been handwavily spending most of the week studying: both for finals, and for his own projects. Having completed most of the really tedious work, he propped open the door to his room and sat on his bed with a scroll and a notebook, taking very detailed notes.

Ino was heading back to her room for the night when she noticed Kabuto's door open and immediately changed course. What better way was there to end a really fun day than by yelling at Kabuto?

"Coming out of hiding are you?" She said, striving for disinterest as she leaned against his door frame. Her hair still wasn't quite back to it's normal blonde, but it was looking better. Sort of. Closer to blonde anyway.

"Resurfacing after an extended period of research," Kabuto corrected off-handedly. "During which I did get a lot of work done. I see you've been using your time wisely," he added snarkily, barely glancing up at Ino's greenish hair.

"Uh huh," Ino said, brushing off his insult, "and it just so happened to coincide with avoiding me when I'm made at you?" Pause. "Didn't think you were that much of a coward."

"Not a coward," Kabuto corrected. "A student."

"Because a good student leaves his partner all alone for a final project and then tries to blame her for it?" Ino raised her eyebrows. "Doesn't sound like a good student to me."

Yes, it had happened awhile ago. Yes, Ino was still going to harp about it. Well... until he distracted her anyway.

"It wasn't the final. I did that on my own. Besides, you didn't want to leave the thing with me, anyway." Kabuto wasn't looking up anymore, just continuing to write.

"It was the final project of the class, idiot." Ino snapped, "Don't purposefully misunderstand me."

Pause.

"And you would've killed it! Don't you dare try to sell me the same crap you told Master Skywalker either."

"Ino-san, how often am I really serious?" Kabuto asked, glancing up to smile at her.

She huffed at him. "It was entirely plausible! And Kabu-chan wouldn't have deserved that."

Not that she'd become fond enough of it to care about anything but her mark until after having the baby for a few days. Stupid thing had grown on her.

"It was a robot, Ino-san," Kabuto replied flatly. "You're overreacting." Because really. The thing hadn't been real. "It was a stupid exercise that isn't going to keep people who shouldn't have children in the first place from procreating."

"It had feelings." She glowered at him, "That matters to me." And, really, she hadn't much thought about the point of the exercise. Just that it had to survive the week.

"It was a robot," Kabuto repeated. "It didn't have feelings. It had programs." He shut his notebook with a snap, looking up at Ino and raising an eyebrow. "Is that why your hair looks nauseated?"

"It does not!" Ino flushed with embarrassment. "It's paint, most of it's gone by now, but..." she trailed off. It occurred to Ino that it was a good thing he hadn't been around to mock her hair colour all week.

"You're that uncoordinated?" Kabuto mocked sweetly. "I thought even Leaf ninja were skilled enough to put paint on paper rather than on themselves."

"It was a paint fight!" She snapped, stomping over to him and glowering, "And I got him better than he got me, in the end."

"A paint fight. Aha. So that's what you're calling it, now." Kabuto really did seem to enjoy taunting Ino.
